The Nigerian Navy’s ship NNS BEECROFT has formally handed over a consignment of four bags containing about 172 kilograms of cannabis sativa to the NDLEA Marine Command.
The drugs were initially intercepted on 24 November 2025 when the NNS BEECROFT Quick Response Team, acting on credible intelligence, stopped a van suspected of carrying illicit substances along the Ijegun‑waterside axis. The quick action and coordinated intelligence‑driven operation resulted in the successful seizure of the narcotics — part of a broader crackdown on trafficking through Nigeria’s coastal and maritime routes.
During the handover ceremony in Lagos, the Navy emphasized that this interception underscores its commitment — under the leadership of Vice Admiral Idi Abbas — to clamp down on maritime-based drug smuggling and other illicit activities. The Navy also called on the public to support law enforcement by providing timely and credible information to help secure Nigeria’s waterways.
This operation marks yet another instance of successful collaboration between maritime security forces and anti‑narcotics agencies — sending a strong signal to traffickers trying to exploit coastal waterways for drug distribution.
