In a heartwarming tribute to the unsung heroes of the pandemic, a new book, *The Extra Mile*, shines a light on the remarkable efforts of the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC) and their collaboration with the Cyberabad police. This initiative, launched by Telangana's governor Jishnu Dev Verma, offers a glimpse into the resilience and dedication of those who went above and beyond to serve their community during a time of crisis.
The book, authored by Krishna Yedula, former SCSC secretary-general, and co-written by Indian missile scientist Arun Tiwari, narrates a story of swift action and coordination. When the pandemic hit, the SCSC played a pivotal role in enabling the IT industry to transition to work-from-home setups in record time. This achievement, as highlighted by then DGP M Mahendar Reddy, was a key factor in keeping Hyderabad ahead of other major Indian cities. The SCSC's unique industry-government interface proved to be a game-changer, ensuring the necessary logistics were provided swiftly.
The launch event was a trip down memory lane for many. Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, who chaired the SCSC at the time, reminisced about the challenges they faced. "Our 24/7 call center was flooded with requests for medicine and groceries. SCSC volunteers, with the support of their families, braved the situation to address these needs alongside the Cyberabad police." Additional Director General of Police Mahesh Bhagwat shared a personal anecdote, recalling how he intervened when a private ambulance demanded an exorbitant fee, underscoring the importance of vigilance during such trying times.
*The Extra Mile* serves as a testament to the power of community collaboration and the indomitable spirit of those who selflessly served during the pandemic. It is a reminder that, even in the face of adversity, humanity's capacity for resilience and compassion knows no bounds.
