Telangana's Revolutionary Plan for Women's Safe Travel

In a groundbreaking move, the Telangana Women's Safety Wing is set to launch a unique initiative, empowering women to take the driver's seat and steer their way to safer urban mobility. The 'She Bikes and She Autos' program, unveiled at the Society for Cyberabad Security Council's Conclave 2025, promises to be a game-changer in addressing the safety concerns of women in public transport.

Additional Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Women Safety, Charu Sinha, emphasized the potential impact of this initiative. She revealed that a portion of the existing cab aggregator fleet would be transformed, with women drivers taking the lead. This bold step aims to create a more secure travel environment for women, addressing the persistent issue of harassment and misconduct in public spaces. The initiative's reach extends beyond transportation, with plans to launch a 'He for She' program in 2026. This campaign will encourage men to actively intervene and stand against disrespect and harassment towards women in various settings, including colleges, workplaces, and community spaces.

Furthermore, the Safe Mobility Initiative ensures immediate support for women facing harassment. By dialing 100, a patrol vehicle will swiftly respond to detain offenders, providing a prompt and effective response mechanism. Despite these efforts, the challenge of underreporting remains, as many women hesitate to file complaints, normalizing minor incidents as routine. To combat this, the Telangana Women's Safety Wing, established in 2019, and Bharosa centres offer comprehensive support, including counselling, medical assistance, legal aid, and trial support, all under one roof.

With these initiatives, Telangana is taking significant strides towards ensuring women's safety and fostering a more inclusive and secure environment for all.
