Hyderabad Cracks Down on Drunk Driving: 407 Arrested in Weekend Blitz

In a bold move to curb drunk driving, the Cyberabad Traffic Police in Hyderabad launched a special operation, resulting in a staggering 407 arrests over the weekend. This targeted enforcement drive highlights the city's commitment to road safety and sends a clear message to potential offenders.

The operation revealed a concerning trend, with two-wheelers accounting for the majority of violations, at 290 cases. This was followed by 90 four-wheelers, 18 three-wheelers, and 9 heavy vehicles. The Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels of the offenders varied, with 354 individuals falling within the 35 mg/100 ml to 200 mg/100 ml range. Alarmingly, 22 drivers had BAC levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml, posing an extreme risk to themselves and others.

Cyberabad Police have reiterated the severity of drunk driving, emphasizing the potential for fatal accidents. Offenders causing such accidents will face stringent penalties, including up to 10 years' imprisonment and fines under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. This recent drive is part of a broader strategy to address the issue, as evidenced by the disposal of 385 drunk-and-drive cases in courts last week, resulting in a mix of fines, jail terms, and social service penalties.

With a strong focus on public safety, the Cyberabad Traffic Police's proactive approach aims to deter potential drunk drivers and promote responsible behavior on the roads. This operation serves as a stern warning, demonstrating the authorities' dedication to enforcing traffic regulations and ensuring the well-being of the community.
