Hyderabad Man Loses Rs 75 Lakh in Online Betting Scam

In a shocking revelation, a resident of Secunderabad, Hyderabad, has fallen victim to a sophisticated online betting scam, resulting in a staggering financial loss of Rs 75 lakh over four years. The victim, a 32-year-old man, was lured into a web of deceit by fraudsters who promised easy and assured profits through illegal betting platforms.

The scam began in 2021 when the victim received a WhatsApp message from individuals posing as online betting operators. They promoted various betting games, including cricket betting and online casino games, with the promise of guaranteed returns. The victim was initially asked to deposit Rs 10,000, and when he received a small profit, it encouraged him to invest more. Over time, he deposited around Rs 10 lakh in 2021 alone, only to lose it all.

However, the fraudsters didn't stop there. In 2022, they approached the victim again, offering a different platform with lower minimum deposits. This led to a cycle of losses, with the victim depositing a total of Rs 75 lakh by 2025. The accused instructed him to use various payment methods, including bank transfers, UPI, and cash deposit machines, making the transactions harder to trace.

The Cyber Crimes Police, Hyderabad, have registered a case based on the victim's complaint and are actively investigating the matter. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of illegal online betting platforms. The Cyber Crimes Wing has issued a public advisory, warning citizens about such scams and providing guidelines to avoid becoming victims. With the rise of online fraud, it is crucial for individuals to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly to the authorities.
