Hyderabad's Massive Anti-Drug Operation: 72 Foreigners Deported

In a significant development in the war on drugs, Hyderabad's Cyberabad police have taken bold action by deporting 72 foreign nationals, primarily from African nations, suspected of involvement in drug trafficking. This operation stands out as one of the largest crackdowns in recent times, with the number of deportations being the highest ever for a single police commissionerate in India within a six-month period.

The Cyberabad police, in collaboration with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Hyderabad, conducted a meticulous investigation, focusing on areas like Attapur, Rajendranagar, and Langar Houz, where drug-related activities were suspected. This joint effort resulted in the detention of 51 African nationals from a farmhouse in Moinabad, revealing a grim picture of human trafficking and forced prostitution among the rescued individuals, including those from Bangladesh and various African countries.

The crackdown's success is evident when compared to the previous year's statistics, where only 40 foreign nationals were deported. This year's operation, led by Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty, has been particularly effective in targeting drug peddlers. A senior Cyberabad police officer revealed that most of the overstaying foreigners were engaged in illegal activities and were promptly moved to detention centers, where they often requested deportation due to the restrictions on their freedom.

The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing's contribution to this operation is also noteworthy, having deported 11 foreign drug peddlers in 2025, including Nigerians, Sudanese, and Tanzanian nationals. This coordinated effort across various law enforcement agencies sends a strong message about India's commitment to combating drug trafficking and its determination to protect its citizens from the scourge of illegal substances.
