Hyderabad's roads witnessed a dramatic crackdown on drunk driving over the weekend, with a staggering 800 motorists booked by the city's vigilant traffic police. This operation, aimed at curbing a persistent issue, revealed a concerning trend among drivers, particularly those on two-wheelers.

The Hyderabad traffic police, led by Joint Commissioner D. Joel Davis, took a zero-tolerance stance, apprehending 403 drivers. Alarmingly, eight of these individuals had blood alcohol content (BAC) levels exceeding the legal limit of 30 micrograms per 100 ml of blood, with some reaching over 300. This stark violation highlights the potential dangers posed to both drivers and other road users.

The Cyberabad traffic police's efforts were equally impactful, with 409 drunk drivers booked. Miyapur emerged as a hotspot, accounting for 81 cases, followed by Chevella and Shamshabad with 44 and 34 cases, respectively. Notably, two-wheeler riders constituted the majority of offenders, and the age group of 31-40 was over-represented, comprising more than one-third of the drunk drivers.

This operation serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against drunk driving, a menace that endangers lives and disrupts the peace of the city.
