In a significant development, the Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) has exposed a foreign link in the city's drug trafficking network. The police have apprehended and deported a Ugandan national, Juliana Victor Nabitaka, aged 27, who had overstayed her visa and become entangled in the city's illegal drug trade.

Nabitaka's journey to Hyderabad began in February 2024 when she entered India on a tourist visa, exploring various cities like Chennai, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. However, her path took a dark turn as she befriended foreign drug peddlers during her travels. This led to her involvement in drug trafficking activities, particularly in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, as confirmed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Vaibhav Gaikwad.

The H-NEW's vigilance led to Nabitaka's capture in the Tolichowki area. During interrogation, she admitted to overstaying her visa, which had expired in January 2025. The police's swift action resulted in her deportation, with the assistance of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), ensuring she is now blacklisted from re-entering India.

This incident highlights the growing international dimension of India's drug problem. As authorities grapple with the challenge of local drug peddlers, the involvement of foreign nationals adds complexity to the issue.
