Hyderabad Crime Surge: Troubling Trends in Rachakonda's Annual Report

The year 2025 has seen a concerning rise in specific crimes in Hyderabad's Rachakonda Police Commissionerate, casting a shadow over the city's safety. With a 15% increase in total cases compared to the previous year, the annual crime report reveals a mixed bag of successes and challenges.

While property crimes and several major offences decreased, the report highlights a disturbing trend in kidnapping, molestation, and POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) cases. Kidnapping incidents surged from 463 to 579, with a significant increase in the kidnapping of women, rising from 233 to 479 cases. Molestation cases also saw a sharp rise, climbing from 561 to 809. Perhaps most alarming is the increase in POCSO cases, jumping from 392 to 516, indicating a growing threat to children's safety.

Despite these worrying trends, the Rachakonda Police Commissioner, G. Sudheer Babu, emphasized the success of their proactive policing strategies. Visible policing and quick response initiatives have led to a notable decrease in property crimes and a commendable 78% disposal rate for reported cases. The Commissionerate's efforts have also resulted in a high number of life convictions, with 31 convictions against 55 accused, a leading figure in Telangana.

As the city grapples with these contrasting crime trends, the police's focus on community engagement and specialized programs may prove crucial. The launch of the Bharosa Centre and the Golden Care initiative demonstrates a commitment to supporting victims and vulnerable groups. However, the rise in crimes against women and children demands further attention and innovative strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.
