In a year marked by a slight dip in overall crime, the Cyberabad police commissionerate's annual press meet revealed a compelling narrative of evolving criminal trends. The year 2025 witnessed a total of 37,243 cognisable offences, a marginal 1.2% decrease from 2024. Yet, the spotlight remains on cybercrime, which, despite a significant drop in cases, continues to dominate the crime landscape.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty's briefing highlighted a 35.9% decline in cybercrime cases, from 11,914 in 2024 to 7,636 in 2025. However, the financial toll was still substantial, with losses amounting to 404.61 crore rupees. The police's proactive interventions proved effective, preventing further losses of 54.67 crore rupees and securing refunds of 20.75 crore rupees for victims. Part-time job fraud emerged as the most prevalent cybercrime, with 2,079 cases, followed by trading and smishing frauds. Notably, digital arrest fraud cases plummeted by over 88%, a significant achievement in combating this once-rampant crime.
Beyond cybercrime, the commissionerate saw a shift in crime patterns. Property-related crimes rose to 15% of the total, becoming the second-largest category. Bodily offences and crimes against women also increased, underscoring the need for heightened vigilance. The economic offences wing's activities led to the detection of high-value investment frauds, resulting in arrests and substantial asset attachments. Road safety initiatives showed a mixed outcome, with a decrease in fatal accidents but a rise in overall road accidents, particularly on highways.
As the year draws to a close, the Cyberabad police's efforts in curbing cybercrime and other offences are evident. However, the evolving nature of criminal activities demands continued vigilance and innovative strategies to ensure public safety and security.
