Hyderabad is gearing up for a festive season, but with a stern warning from the city's police commissioner, VC Sajjanar, who vows to keep a tight leash on revellers. With the upcoming Christmas, Vaikunta Ekadashi, and New Year celebrations, the city is set to witness a surge in social activities, and the police are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a safe and secure environment.

In a video conference, Sajjanar outlined a comprehensive security plan, emphasising a zero-tolerance policy for drunk driving. From Wednesday onwards, special enforcement teams will be on the prowl, targeting drunk drivers across the city. The night of December 31st will see an intensified operation with checks at 100 locations, backed by additional forces, ready to crack down on any violations. The consequences are severe, with immediate vehicle seizures, hefty fines, and potential imprisonment for those caught over the limit. The commissioner further warned of permanent driving licence cancellations for offenders, urging partygoers to plan ahead with designated drivers or cab services.

The police have also set a 1 am deadline for New Year's Eve parties at pubs and hotels, with strict noise pollution regulations in place. Event organisers are on notice, as the commissioner promised to cancel licences and file criminal cases if illegal activities like narcotic use or obscene dances are detected. Furthermore, the safety of women is a top priority, with 15 SHE Teams deployed in plain clothes to swiftly address any harassment incidents.

As the city prepares for the festivities, Sajjanar's message is clear: "Welcome 2026 safely, and let the celebrations create pleasant memories without crossing legal boundaries." With a well-laid security grid, Hyderabad's police aim to strike a balance between festive cheer and public safety, ensuring a memorable yet responsible New Year's Eve.
