Hyderabad Cracks Down on Drunk Driving: 304 Caught in 24 Hours

In a swift and stern move to ensure public safety during the festive season, the Hyderabad City Traffic Police have embarked on a special operation to curb drunk driving. The drive, which began on December 24, 2025, and will extend until New Year's Eve, has already yielded a significant number of arrests, with 304 motorists caught under the influence in just the first 24 hours.

The operation, personally supervised by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, saw an extensive deployment of resources. Seven additional platoons joined the force, and inspections were conducted at 120 locations within the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate. The Commissioner himself was on the ground, overseeing the midnight checks at the TG Study Circle in Banjara Hills. This high-visibility enforcement sends a clear message: drunk driving will not be tolerated.

The consequences for violators are severe. Commissioner Sajjanar warned that vehicles would be seized, and offenders could face substantial fines and up to six months in prison. The police are also empowered to recommend permanent license cancellations to the Transport Department for serious violations. This zero-tolerance approach aims to deter potential offenders and ensure the safety of all road users.

As the operation continues through the New Year, the traffic police have urged citizens to act responsibly. The message is clear: drunk driving is not just a personal risk but a threat to public safety. With strict enforcement and public awareness, the Hyderabad City Traffic Police aim to keep the roads safe during this festive period and beyond.
