Hyderabad's New Year's Eve: Zero Tolerance for Road Rage

Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar has vowed to crack down on unruly behaviour during the city's New Year celebrations, with a particular focus on drunk driving and road disturbances. In a stern message to the public, the Commissioner warned that the police will not tolerate any disruptions on the roads, especially those caused by intoxicated individuals.

The announcement came during a video conference on Tuesday, where Sajjanar reviewed security plans for the upcoming festive season, including Christmas, Vaikuntha Ekadashi, and New Year's Eve. He emphasised the need for stringent measures to prevent any untoward incidents, especially in areas with a history of crime. To this end, the police will deploy additional forces to conduct drunk driving checks at 100 locations across the city on New Year's Eve, backed by seven platoons of support. This move aims to deter potential offenders and ensure the safety of all citizens.

The Commissioner's zero-tolerance policy sends a clear message to partygoers and revellers. He urged attendees to plan ahead by arranging designated drivers or opting for taxi services. Youngsters, in particular, were warned against racing, performing wheelies, or any form of reckless driving, as these actions will result in severe consequences. Penalties for drunk driving include vehicle seizures, hefty fines of Rs 10,000, and potential jail terms of up to six months, as well as the possibility of losing one's driving license permanently.

With these measures, Hyderabad Police aims to ensure a safe and peaceful transition into the new year, allowing citizens to celebrate without fear of road-related incidents. The city's law enforcement is taking a proactive approach to maintain order and security during this festive period.
