Delhi's New Year's Eve Crackdown: 200+ Arrests, 500+ Apprehensions

As the world prepares to ring in the new year, Delhi Police has launched a massive operation to ensure the city's celebrations are safe and lawful. In a sweeping crackdown, over 200 criminals have been arrested, and more than 500 individuals have been apprehended under preventive measures. This operation, codenamed 'Aaghat 3.0', is a targeted effort to curb criminal activities and maintain public order in the bustling capital.

The operation, led by the South Delhi District Police, has focused on addressing various illegal practices. Among those arrested, many were involved in property and drug-related crimes. DCP South East Hemant Tiwari confirmed that the arrests were made under the Excise Act, Gambling Act, and NDPS Act. The police also detained 116 individuals with known criminal backgrounds and arrested several property offenders and car thieves.

The success of Operation Aaghat 3.0 is evident in the substantial recoveries made. The police seized a significant amount of illegal liquor, homemade firearms, ganja, and other weapons. Additionally, they confiscated cash, phones, vehicles, and other items associated with illegal activities. The operation's impact was not limited to the South-East district, as the Delhi Police also ramped up surveillance and monitoring across the city.

With the New Year's Eve celebrations approaching, other major cities like Bengaluru and Hyderabad are also tightening security. Bengaluru's City Police Commissioner emphasized the importance of adhering to prescribed timings and noise regulations. Hyderabad's Police Commissioner, VC Sajjanar, has implemented a zero-tolerance drug policy for the festivities, deploying special surveillance teams to ensure a safe and secure environment for all.
