Drug Law Enforcement Team Educates Police on NDPS Act

In a significant step towards strengthening the fight against drug-related crimes, the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) took centre stage in Machilipatnam, Krishna district, on Friday. The EAGLE wing organised an awareness session on the intricacies of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act), with a focus on practical training for police personnel. This initiative aimed to empower around 80 writers and computer operators from Krishna's police stations, who are often the first point of contact in NDPS cases.

The training covered a comprehensive range of topics, ensuring that attendees understood the legal framework and their procedural responsibilities. The EAGLE Inspector meticulously outlined the process, from initial information gathering to the final charge sheet filing. A critical aspect emphasised was adhering to Section 52(A) of the NDPS Act, which mandates the presence of a Judicial Magistrate during sample collection and inventory certification, followed by chemical analysis at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and subsequent destruction under the District Drug Committee's supervision.

The practical nature of the training was evident as participants filled out the mandatory forms required for NDPS cases. The session also highlighted EAGLE's strategic operations, including Operation Garuda, Operation Chaitanya, and Safe Campus Zone, encouraging attendees to actively participate in these initiatives. The event was well-attended by key personnel, including Inspector V Peddiraju of the DCRB and Krishna district EAGLE members K Balakrishna Murthy and K Murali.

This training initiative underscores the importance of continuous education and skill development for law enforcement personnel, ensuring they are equipped to navigate the complex legal landscape surrounding drug-related crimes. With enhanced knowledge, these officers can contribute more effectively to the ongoing battle against narcotics, making Krishna district a safer place for its residents.
