Cyberabad's Hostels Under Scrutiny: A Safety and Security Overhaul

In a significant move to combat illegal activities and enhance safety, the Cyberabad Police have embarked on a comprehensive audit of hostels, with a particular focus on security and regulatory compliance. This initiative comes on the heels of a drug bust at a co-living space in Raidurg, which has shed light on potential lapses in oversight and safety measures.

The recent operation by the Special Operations Team (SOT) in Anjaiah Nagar resulted in the arrest of two drug suppliers and three consumers, with the seizure of MDMA, OG Kush, and mobile phones. This incident has prompted a broader examination of the co-living environment, where a lack of stringent security and fire safety measures has been identified as a pressing concern.

Cyberabad Commissioner of Police Avinash Mohanty emphasized the need for a multi-agency approach to address these issues. "Enforcement cannot be the sole responsibility of the police," he stated, highlighting the involvement of various departments in the upcoming audits. The initial phase has already scrutinized 1,000 hostels for essential safety features like CCTV coverage, security personnel, and fire safety equipment.

With the next phase targeting an additional 1,000 hostels, the Cyberabad Police aim to create a safer environment for residents, particularly those staying for employment and educational purposes. The audits will also ensure that hostels meet regulatory standards, potentially influencing residents' accommodation choices and encouraging management to prioritize safety. This proactive approach is a significant step towards creating a secure and compliant living environment in the region.
