In a significant crackdown on illegal substances, Telangana's Excise and Prohibition Department's State Task Force (STF) arrested nine individuals and seized a range of contraband in Hyderabad on Saturday, December 27, 2025. The operation, spanning multiple locations across the city, uncovered a variety of illicit goods, from synthetic drugs to illegally transported jaggery, believed to be used in the production of bootleg liquor.
The STF's efforts commenced with a raid in the Beeramguda area, where 1.4 grams of MDMA was confiscated, leading to the arrest of Thota Hanmanthu and Bappanna Pranay Sukumar. This operation, conducted based on a tip-off, also resulted in the recovery of a scooter and mobile phones, all of which were handed over to the Ameerpet Excise Station for further inquiry.
Simultaneously, STF teams intercepted buses arriving from Bengaluru, seizing a diverse range of substances. This operation led to the discovery of 10 grams of OG Kush, 101 grams of ganja, and five bottles of liquor, all sourced from Karnataka. Three individuals, Hamid, Arif, and Harish, were detained in connection with this seizure, demonstrating the STF's commitment to disrupting supply chains.
The operation also targeted the illegal transportation of jaggery, a key ingredient in illicit liquor production. Two separate cases resulted in the seizure of large quantities of jaggery and alum, totaling 2,616 kilograms and 200 kilograms, respectively. These operations highlight the STF's comprehensive approach to tackling the illegal liquor trade, from drug busts to disrupting supply chains.
The STF's swift and coordinated actions send a strong message about their commitment to maintaining law and order. With the accused now facing legal proceedings, the STF's efforts are a testament to their vigilance and dedication to keeping Telangana's streets safe.
