In a significant drug enforcement operation, Telangana's EAGLE Force has made a series of arrests and seizures, cracking down on drug trafficking and consumption ahead of the New Year celebrations. The recent surge in narcotics activity has led to a focused effort to disrupt the supply chain targeting urban partygoers.
Over the past 10 days, the force has registered 17 NDPS cases, apprehending 27 drug peddlers and 18 consumers, with a notable arrest of five foreign women nationals. The operation, led by TG-EAGLE Director Sandeep Shandilya, has uncovered a substantial stash of drugs, including 381.93 kilograms of ganja, 68 grams of cocaine, 50.5 grams of MDMA, and two grams of LSD blots. This haul highlights the alarming rise in drug trafficking during the festive season.
The EAGLE Force, in coordination with local police, has intensified its presence in Hyderabad's nightlife hotspots, transit routes, and suspected supply hubs. A joint operation in Banjara Hills resulted in the arrest of a 47-year-old woman, Hassa, who was found in possession of MDMA and LSD. The accused's interrogation revealed a Goa connection, where she was introduced to a drug supplier during a trip in December 2024. This supplier, Romi Bharath Kalyani, is a habitual offender with a criminal history spanning multiple states, including Telangana, Maharashtra, and Goa.
With the New Year approaching, the EAGLE Force's crackdown sends a strong message to drug cartels and serves as a warning to potential consumers. The operation's success underscores the need for continued vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the public to combat the pervasive issue of drug abuse.
