In a significant development, Andhra Pradesh has made remarkable strides in crime control and public safety, as revealed by the state's Home Minister V. Anitha. The year 2025 saw a notable decline in overall crime rates, with a 6.17% reduction in IPC/BNS crimes, marking a significant achievement in the state's law enforcement efforts. This progress is particularly impressive given the challenges often associated with crime management in a populous and diverse state like Andhra Pradesh.
The Home Department's annual performance report highlights several key areas of improvement. The state witnessed a substantial decrease in riots, with a remarkable 53.88% reduction, indicating enhanced public order. Crimes against marginalized communities, such as SCs and STs, decreased by 24.32%, addressing a critical social issue. Additionally, crimes against women and children saw a notable drop, with a 3.82% decline in crimes against women and an 11.4% reduction in POCSO cases, demonstrating the government's commitment to vulnerable populations.
The state's law enforcement agencies have employed innovative strategies to enhance public safety. Operation TRACE, for instance, successfully traced over 3,900 missing girls and women, while self-defence training empowered nearly 13 lakh women. Technological advancements, including the deployment of CCTV cameras and drones, have significantly aided in crime detection and prevention. The ERSS-112 response time improvement is another notable achievement, ensuring swift emergency services.
"Our focus on comprehensive reforms and public safety has yielded positive results," said Home Minister Anitha. "We are committed to sustaining this progress, ensuring Andhra Pradesh remains a safe and resilient state." The state's success in crime control and policing reforms is a testament to the effectiveness of its governance strategies, setting an example for other states to emulate in their pursuit of public safety and justice.
