Telangana's Drug Bust: 27 Peddlers, a Complex Web

In a significant operation against the illegal drug trade, Telangana's EAGLE force has made a series of arrests, seizing a substantial amount of narcotics and shedding light on a complex network of drug peddlers and consumers. Over the past 10 days, the force has apprehended 27 drug dealers, 18 users, and five foreign nationals, with a particular focus on the upcoming New Year celebrations.

The operation, led by TG-EAGLE team director Sandeep Shandilya, has uncovered a web of drug transactions and social connections. The recent arrest of a 47-year-old woman, Hassa, in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, sparked a chain of revelations. Hassa's journey began in December 2024 when she traveled to Goa, a popular tourist destination, and met Meena, a resident of Hyderabad, and her friend Kiran. The trio's vacation took a turn when they encountered Romy Bharat Kalyani, a 40-year-old native of West Mumbai, at Vagator Beach. Kalyani, a known drug supplier with a history of NDPS Act offences, provided Meena with a mysterious yellow powder, which she promptly consumed.

Hassa's connection to Kalyani was further established through her trips to Goa, where she obtained MDMA from him directly or through intermediaries. This intricate network of drug transactions highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in tackling the drug trade, especially with suppliers like Kalyani, who was arrested multiple times in 2024 and again in November 2025 but remains at large.

As the New Year approaches, the EAGLE force's efforts serve as a stark reminder of the pervasive nature of the drug problem. Director Shandilya's warning to youth about the dangers of drug abuse in party culture is timely and crucial. The ongoing investigation and pursuit of Kalyani demonstrate the authorities' commitment to disrupting the drug supply chain and protecting the public from the harmful effects of narcotics.
