Telangana's Drug Crackdown: EAGLE Force's Festive Season Blitz

As the year draws to a close, Telangana's EAGLE Force has been busy waging a war against drug trafficking, with a series of arrests and seizures that paint a vivid picture of the state's narcotics landscape. In the past 10 days alone, the force has registered 17 NDPS cases, leading to the detention of 27 drug peddlers and 18 consumers, including five foreign women nationals. The crackdown, a response to the anticipated surge in drug activity during New Year celebrations, has yielded a substantial cache of narcotics, including 381.93 kilograms of ganja, 68 grams of cocaine, 50.5 grams of MDMA, and two grams of LSD blots.

The operation, led by TG-EAGLE Director Sandeep Shandilya, has been strategically focused on nightlife hotspots, transit routes, and suspected supply networks across Hyderabad and beyond. Shandilya noted that the festive season often triggers a spike in drug demand, particularly for party drugs. This recent enforcement drive has exposed an intricate web of organized trafficking and local distribution networks, as evidenced by the diverse range of narcotics seized.

A notable success was the arrest of a 47-year-old woman, Hassa, in Banjara Hills, who was found in possession of MDMA and LSD. Her interrogation revealed a Goa connection, with repeated procurements of MDMA during her visits to the coastal state. This led investigators to identify a key supplier, Romi Bharath Kalyani, a habitual offender with a history of narcotics cases across multiple states. The police are now in pursuit of Kalyani, believed to be a significant player in the drug trade, supplying consumers in Hyderabad and beyond.

The operation underscores the EAGLE Force's commitment to disrupting drug networks and protecting the public, especially the youth, from the perils of substance abuse. With the New Year celebrations approaching, the force's vigilance and proactive approach are crucial in curbing illegal activities that threaten public safety and security.
