In a significant victory for law enforcement, the Telangana Excise department has dealt a severe blow to the illicit liquor and narcotics trade, boasting a 90% reduction in country liquor production across the state. This achievement was revealed at the department's annual press conference, where officials detailed their relentless efforts to curb illegal activities.
The department's Non-Duty Paid Liquor (NDPL) wing has been particularly active, with a notable increase in cases and seizures compared to the previous year. In 2025, they registered 1,141 cases, confiscating a substantial 11,500 litres of liquor and 102 vehicles, valued at Rs 1.15 crore. This surge in enforcement sends a clear message to those involved in the illegal liquor trade.
The crackdown on narcotics has been equally impressive. Under the NDPS Act, 1,304 cases were filed, resulting in the arrest of 2,333 individuals and the seizure of various contraband items, including ganja, MDMA, heroin, and LSD. The total value of seized assets reached a staggering Rs 9.40 crore. The department's focus on disrupting the supply chain is evident, with special STF teams monitoring highways to counter the rising trend of ganja and drug smuggling from neighboring states.
"The sharp decline in country liquor production is a testament to our efforts," stated Excise Commissioner C. Harikiran. "Our targeted raids and intensive actions have significantly disrupted the illegal trade, and we are determined to continue our vigilant efforts." The department's success in curbing illicit activities not only ensures public safety but also underscores the government's commitment to maintaining law and order. With the ongoing efforts of the Telangana Excise department, the state is taking significant strides towards a safer and more secure environment for its citizens.
