In a significant crackdown on drug use during New Year's celebrations, Hyderabad's law enforcement took center stage with a series of raids across the city's bustling pubs. The Telanganas Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) conducted surprise inspections, leading to the apprehension of five individuals, including prominent DJs, for drug consumption.
The operation, which commenced on Wednesday night and extended into the early hours of Thursday, saw 15 EAGLE teams and eight Excise Department teams sweep through popular nightlife venues. The targeted pubs, including Illusion, VAVE, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Sherlocks, were abuzz with revelers, but the authorities' focus was on those providing the entertainment. The raids revealed a concerning trend: several DJs, responsible for setting the party vibe, were performing under the influence of drugs.
Among those detained were K Sridhar, a DJ at Buffalo Wild Wings in Old Alwal, and Gudati David, who was spinning tracks at Sherlocks Pub in Punjagutta. Tanvir Singh, a DJ at Illusion Pub, and D Manibhushanam, a drummer at VAVE Pub, also tested positive for drug use. The fifth individual, K Ravi Krishna, was apprehended during a vehicle check in Sanath Nagar.
This proactive approach by the authorities sends a clear message about the city's commitment to curbing drug-related activities, especially in public spaces. The New Year's Eve raids serve as a reminder that while celebrations are encouraged, they must be conducted within the boundaries of the law. As the city continues to buzz with post-celebration activities, the EAGLE's efforts ensure that Hyderabad's nightlife remains vibrant yet responsible.
