Hyderabad's DJ Drug Bust: Pubs on Notice

In a recent crackdown on drug abuse, Hyderabad's EAGLE officials have turned their attention to the city's nightlife, specifically targeting disc jockeys (DJs) suspected of performing under the influence. With a watchful eye on 51 DJs, the authorities have sent a strong message to the entertainment industry.

The operation, which involved 15 teams, revealed a concerning trend. Four DJs, out of the 500 performers under scrutiny, tested positive for drug abuse, specifically ganja, through urine tests. This discovery has prompted a stern response from law enforcement, who are now urging the Excise Department and GHMC not to renew the licences of the four pubs where these DJs were employed.

The pubs in question had previously been warned about ensuring drug-free performances, but these warnings fell on deaf ears. As a result, these establishments are now under intense surveillance, and authorities are considering legal action. The remaining 47 DJs on the shortlist will continue to be monitored, ensuring the issue is addressed comprehensively.

"We will not tolerate drug abuse in our city's entertainment venues," said an EAGLE official, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts to combat drug-related issues in Hyderabad. With a focus on both the suppliers and users, the authorities aim to create a safer environment for residents and visitors alike. The next steps may involve further investigations into the drug supply chain and potential collaborations with rehabilitation centers to address the root causes of substance abuse.
