In a significant blow to drug trafficking, Jammu's police have arrested 311 individuals, including 35 women, in a relentless crackdown on narcotics throughout 2025. This operation, a testament to the district's zero-tolerance policy, has led to the seizure of heroin valued at over Rs 60 crore in the international market.
The police spokesperson detailed the success of their strategy, which included focused enforcement, intelligence-led operations, and community involvement. This approach resulted in 204 FIRs registered under the NDPS Act, with 311 accused arrested and 71 vehicles seized for narcotics trafficking. Notably, 207 of the accused were found with heroin, a highly addictive and dangerous substance.
The Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act played a pivotal role in the operation, allowing for the detention of 11 hardcore drug peddlers without bail or trial. This measure aims to disrupt the supply chain of large-scale drug trafficking. The police also seized substantial quantities of various drugs, including 15 kg of heroin, 78 kg of ganja, and 114 kg of poppy straw, along with capsules and opium.
To cripple drug syndicates financially, the Jammu police attached properties and a vehicle worth nearly Rs 97.10 lakh, identified as proceeds from narcotics sales. This comprehensive strategy, involving the community and targeting the financial aspects of drug operations, has significantly impacted the district's drug trade. With the destruction of seized narcotics and the dismantling of illegal structures at drug hotspots, Jammu's police have demonstrated a commitment to eradicating the drug menace and ensuring a safer environment for its residents.
