Savitribai Phule's Legacy Honoured Across Three Districts

The inspiring life and work of Savitribai Phule, a 19th-century social reformer, were brought to the forefront on Saturday as her 195th birth anniversary was celebrated with enthusiasm in Tirupati, Nellore, and Prakasam districts. This occasion served as a reminder of her pioneering efforts in advocating for women's education and empowerment, which continue to resonate today.

The day was marked by various events, including the unveiling of a statue at Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswa Vidyalaya (SPMVV) in Tirupati by MLA Arani Srinivasulu. The ceremony, organized by BC Sangharshana Samiti, was attended by several dignitaries, including MP Maddila Gurumurthy and Municipal Corporation Mayor Dr. Sirisha, emphasizing the importance of Phule's contributions.

In Nellore, Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU) hosted a commemoration where Vice-Chancellor Prof. Allam Srinivasa Rao highlighted Phule's bravery in challenging inhumane traditions like Sati. He also underscored the ongoing relevance of her advocacy for women's education and empowerment, which remains a critical issue in modern society.

The anniversary also sparked political action in Prakasam, where the District B.C. Coordination Committee staged a dharna, calling for the government to fulfill election promises related to women's welfare. Botta Subba Rao, the committee president, demanded a caste census to ensure equal opportunities for the BC community in education, employment, and politics. He urged the government to implement the BC Protection Act and provide financial support to women, as pledged during the elections.

As the day's events demonstrated, Savitribai Phule's legacy continues to inspire and guide efforts towards social justice and equality, ensuring her vision remains a living, breathing force in contemporary society.
