In a significant blow to the illicit drug trade, the Guntur district police have arrested 14 individuals in a targeted operation against the ganja network. This crackdown, which took place in the Pedakakani police station jurisdiction, has led to the seizure of nearly 5 kilograms of the banned substance.
The operation, led by Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal, was a well-coordinated effort based on credible intelligence. The police team, under the guidance of Circle Inspector T.P. Narayana Swamy, conducted a swift raid near an abandoned shed close to the local Primary Health Centre. This strategic location, in the heart of Pedakakani village, was a hub for illegal activities, as the suspects attempted to flee upon seeing the approaching officers.
The raid yielded a substantial amount of ganja, with approximately 4.8 kilograms recovered from four alleged sellers and an additional 150 grams found in small sachets from 10 consumers. The prime suspect, Mutyala Ramana Rao, known as 'Rocky', is believed to have sourced the ganja from the Araku region, supplying it to local markets. The police have also revealed that several of the accused have prior criminal records, including ganja-related offenses, theft, and assault.
SP Jindal praised the Pedakakani police team's vigilance and emphasized the importance of public cooperation in combating drug-related crimes. He highlighted the success of the 'Sankalpam' initiative, which has conducted 57 awareness programs in educational institutions, and the impact of cordon-and-search operations, resulting in the seizure of numerous vehicles. With ongoing investigations and a focus on disrupting the entire supply chain, the Guntur police are committed to maintaining a drug-free society.
