In a significant operation against transnational drug trafficking, Nigeria's National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized large quantities of illicit substances, including ketamine, ecstasy, and tramadol, cleverly concealed within coffee sachets and book parcels. This crackdown, which took place at a courier company in Lagos on two separate dates in December 2025, has led to the detention of 22 Indian crew members from a merchant vessel, MV Aruna Hulya, after 31.5 kilograms of cocaine were found on board.
The NDLEA's vigilance extended beyond the port, with officers arresting a 65-year-old female drug kingpin, Fatima Ilori, and her associate, Olusanya Abosede, in Ibadan, Oyo State. The operation was a result of intelligence gathering, which led to the seizure of 238.4 kilograms of skunk cannabis linked to Ilori's network. The NDLEA's reach was further demonstrated in Borno State, where they disrupted drug supply chains to insurgents, arresting individuals with thousands of tramadol injections and capsules.
The agency's Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa, praised the efforts of his team, emphasizing the need to persistently target both local and international drug trafficking networks. He also highlighted the importance of community engagement, as evidenced by the NDLEA's awareness campaigns in schools, workplaces, and communities across various states, including Lagos, Katsina, and Niger.
This series of successful operations underscores the NDLEA's commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse, sending a strong message to criminal networks that their activities will not go unnoticed or unchallenged. As the agency continues its 'War Against Drug Abuse' (WADA), the public can expect further revelations and actions in this ongoing battle.
