Nellore's 83-km Ring Road Plan: Unlocking Traffic Solutions

The bustling city of Nellore is gearing up for a transformative infrastructure project with the proposed Outer Ring Road (ORR) project, an ambitious 83.64-kilometer stretch from Leburu Bit2 to Rajupalem Junction. This strategic initiative, estimated to cost a substantial 1,930 crore, aims to address the burgeoning traffic concerns in the region. District Collector Himanshu Shukla has taken the reins, urging various departments, including the National Highways Authority, Roads and Buildings, Irrigation, and Traffic Police, to collaborate seamlessly for its successful implementation.

The ORR project, which has been on the drawing board since 2023, will significantly impact four assembly constituencies: Kovur, Sarvepalli, Nellore Rural, and Atmakur. Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prasanthi Reddy highlighted the need for clarity on the alignment, as nearly half of the proposed road traverses through her constituency. She emphasized the importance of fair compensation for those affected by the project, ensuring transparency and public acceptance. The Nellore Urban Development Authority (NUDA) chairman, Kotamreddy Srinivasulu Reddy, suggested a fresh field inspection by the consulting agency SECON to address these concerns and explore ways to optimize the ORR's length.

The preliminary review meeting at the Tikkana Bhavan in the District Collectorate brought together key stakeholders, including NUDA officials, MLAs, and revenue officers. The discussions underscored the project's significance, with the in-charge mayor, Roop Kumar Yadav, advocating for a detailed re-examination of compensation proposals due to the substantial investment involved. The next steps will likely involve further consultations with local representatives, field inspections, and a comprehensive report to secure government approvals and funding for this critical infrastructure development.
