Hyderabad's Cyber Cops: Unmasking Online Scams

In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, Hyderabad's Cyber Crime Police Station has emerged as a formidable force, registering a staggering 224 FIRs in December 2025, a direct response to the surge in online fraud complaints. This proactive approach led to the arrest of 58 individuals across India and the recovery of over 2.05 crore rupees for the victims.

The operation was comprehensive, with the police station receiving 266 complaints via the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP), resulting in 144 FIRs. Simultaneously, the zonal cyber cells, an integral part of the operation, received 2,195 NCRP petitions, leading to 80 FIRs. These efforts culminated in the arrest of 15 individuals and the refund of 72,36,067 rupees to the affected citizens.

The cyber crime police's special operations in December were particularly noteworthy, with 43 arrests made across 15 states, all linked to 34 cases registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Hyderabad. The scams varied, including investment fraud, digital arrest fraud, and social media scams, among others. The police successfully refunded 1,33,35,104 rupees to victims in these cases, a significant achievement in the ongoing battle against cybercrime.

"There is no concept of digital arrest, and no government agency demands money over the phone or online platforms," asserted M. Srinivasulu, IPS, Additional Commissioner of Police, Crimes & SIT, Hyderabad City. This statement underscores the importance of public awareness and vigilance in the fight against cybercrime. The Hyderabad police's efforts in December serve as a model for proactive cybercrime prevention and response, demonstrating the effectiveness of a well-coordinated strategy in protecting citizens from online scams.
