The Hyderabad jurisdiction saw an intensive surveillance operation, with 327 individuals caught driving while intoxicated. Among them, 263 were on two-wheelers, a common mode of transport in the city, while 39 operated four-wheelers and other vehicles. Alarmingly, 34 drivers had Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels exceeding 200 mg/100 ml, indicating severe intoxication. Cyberabad police, in a parallel operation, apprehended 371 individuals, including 255 two-wheeler riders and 85 four-wheeler drivers. The BAC levels here were even more concerning, with 21 individuals registering extreme intoxication, their BAC levels soaring between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml.
The judiciary has swiftly responded to these violations, disposing of 444 drink-driving cases within a week. Fines were imposed on 420 individuals, while four faced jail sentences, and 20 received a combination of penalties. This swift action sends a clear message about the consequences of drunk driving. With the crackdown revealing a high number of drunk drivers, the police have issued a stern warning, emphasizing the potential for fatal accidents and the subsequent charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
