In a groundbreaking move, the Hyderabad City Police have introduced C-Mitra, a virtual police officer system, to combat the growing menace of cyber fraud. This innovative initiative aims to revolutionize the way citizens report and seek justice for online crimes, marking a significant step forward in the digital age.
The C-Mitra service is a welcome relief for residents of Hyderabad, offering a convenient and efficient way to file First Information Reports (FIRs) without the need to visit a police station. With the rising tide of digital scams, from OTP frauds to investment schemes, this new system promises to be a game-changer. As Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar stated, "C-Mitra brings policing to the people's doorstep, leveraging technology to combat cybercrime."
The process is straightforward. Victims initiate the complaint by calling a dedicated helpline or using the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Then, the C-Mitra team, powered by Artificial Intelligence, drafts a precise report, ensuring legal accuracy. The victim's role is simple: sign the printed draft and send it to the Cyber Mitra Help Desk, either by post or via a drop box at the Cyber Crime Police Station. This streamlined approach saves valuable time for both citizens and police, with the potential to increase FIR conversion rates from 18% to a remarkable 100%.
The system also incorporates a threshold for case registration. Losses above Rs 3 lakh are investigated at the Cyber Crime Police Station, while smaller cases are registered as Zero FIRs and transferred to local stations. This tiered approach ensures efficient resource allocation and faster resolution. As the city embraces this cutting-edge technology, Hyderabad sets a new standard for cybercrime response, offering a model that other urban centers may soon emulate.
