In a significant operation, the Guntur district police have dealt a substantial blow to the illegal ganja trade, arresting 11 individuals and confiscating a substantial 4.4 kg of the substance. This crackdown, led by Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal, highlights the persistent efforts to curb the illicit drug trade in the region.
The first raid, conducted on January 9, resulted in the arrest of six individuals in Ankamma Nagar. The police seized 1.2 kg of ganja from a vacant plot, revealing a covert operation with links to a known supplier, Gumma Sai. Sai, currently in custody at Arundelpet police station, allegedly sourced the drug from Odisha. The accused, including Meduri Hema Sai Chand and Muthukuri Sai Ram, were reportedly selling the contraband to fund Sai's legal expenses.
A second operation on the same day near VIP Road led to the arrest of five more individuals, including Paleti Salman Raju and Gunji Hemanth Raju. The police seized 3.2 kg of ganja, which the prime accused, a fruit vendor, had procured from Araku for a substantial sum. This operation further underscores the widespread nature of the ganja trade, with the accused having previous records under the NDPS Act.
"We are determined to root out the illegal drug trade in our district," Superintendent Jindal stated. "These operations are a testament to our commitment to maintaining law and order and protecting our citizens from the scourge of drugs." The police's swift action sends a clear message to potential offenders, and the public can expect further investigations to ensure the dismantling of these criminal networks.
