In a significant development in the war on drugs, Hyderabad City Police have arrested two Nigerian nationals, seizing a substantial quantity of MDMA valued at approximately Rs 20 lakh. This operation, led by the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) in collaboration with Tolichowki Police Station, sheds light on the intricate web of interstate drug trafficking.
The accused, Chidi Ezeh (42) and Obasi James Victor (38), both residing in New Delhi, were apprehended within the Tolichowki police station limits. Chidi, a repeat offender, had previously been arrested in Hyderabad for NDPS violations involving cocaine and MDMA. His illegal stay in India post-visa expiry led to a fraudulent acquisition of Indian identity documents, enabling him to operate under the alias Nageshwaran. With a history of drug-related cases in Golconda, Amberpet, and North Goa, Chidi's modus operandi involved coordinating with local peddlers via WhatsApp, personally delivering drugs or using Obasi as a courier.
Obasi, who entered India on a tourist visa in 2011, initially engaged in cloth exports to Nigeria and later operated a restaurant in Delhi. His proximity to Chidi, residing in the same building, led to his involvement in drug deliveries. H-NEW has initiated deportation proceedings for Obasi, given his lack of prior criminal history.
The operation underscores the Hyderabad police's commitment to combating drug trafficking, especially by foreign nationals overstaying their visas. With the accused's lavish lifestyle funded by drug proceeds, the bust highlights the need for continued vigilance and public awareness. The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing's appeal to citizens emphasizes the importance of collective responsibility in addressing this societal scourge.
