Nellore, a bustling city in the heart of Andhra Pradesh, is set to undergo a remarkable transformation, thanks to an ambitious greening initiative led by Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Ponguru Narayana. In a move that promises to bring a breath of fresh air to the region, the Minister has unveiled plans to plant an astonishing 50,000 saplings, turning Nellore into a verdant urban oasis.
This initiative, inspired by the high-density plantations of Chandigarh, aims to create a lush canopy of trees, offering natural shade and a much-needed respite from the urban heat. Approximately 2,000 trees, including a vibrant mix of flowering and fruit-bearing varieties, will be strategically planted at five-metre intervals across every division, ensuring a visually appealing and ecologically beneficial urban landscape.
Minister Narayana's vision for Nellore's green future is not limited to tree-planting. He addressed the city's development, emphasizing the government's commitment to making Nellore a Smart City. However, he acknowledged financial constraints, temporarily ruling out an Outer Ring Road (ORR). Instead, he highlighted the expansion of the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway into a six-lane corridor with flyovers, a project that will significantly reduce congestion and improve traffic flow.
The Minister's dedication to Nellore's development was evident as he inaugurated the renovated flyover at Atmakur bus stand, a project initiated by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu back in 1995. This blend of environmental conservation and infrastructure development promises to make Nellore a model for sustainable urban growth, where nature and modernity coexist harmoniously.
