Transport Officials Face Deadline for Backlog Clearance

The state transport commissioner of Patna, Arif Ahsan, has issued a stern directive to district transport officers (DTOs) to expedite the processing of driving licences (DLs) and vehicle registration certificates (RCs), with a hard deadline of January 31. This move comes as a response to the growing backlog of cases, which has prompted a review meeting via videoconferencing, where Ahsan emphasized the direct impact of these services on the lives of ordinary citizens.

During the meeting, Ahsan stressed the importance of timely execution, particularly for cases that have been pending for over six months. He highlighted that the government's commitment to road safety is non-negotiable, advocating for daily helmet and seatbelt checks to reinforce this stance. The commissioner's words echoed the gravity of the situation: "Helmets and seatbelts are proven life-savers, significantly reducing serious injuries and fatalities in road accidents."

In addition to these measures, Ahsan instructed officials to enhance road safety by installing mirrors and signage at critical locations, such as sharp turns and blind spots, to improve visibility and warn drivers of potential hazards. He specifically targeted T-junctions and curves on major highways, advocating for the strategic placement of reflective tape to prevent accidents.

With a clear mandate to reduce pending DL and RC cases to zero by month-end, the DTOs are now under pressure to perform. The commissioner's office has also addressed the backlog of vehicle registration cases at the dealer level, warning district authorities that non-compliance could lead to the cancellation of dealer login IDs. This comprehensive approach aims to streamline transport-related services and ensure a safer and more efficient system for the public.
