In a significant operation, the Secunderabad zone police in Hyderabad have arrested 10 individuals and seized a substantial amount of banned Chinese manja, worth 1.8 lakh rupees. This crackdown sheds light on the dangerous and illegal trade of synthetic kite strings, which pose a serious threat to both humans and wildlife.

The operation, spanning multiple locations, was initiated based on specific intelligence. Police personnel from Kacheguda, Domalguda, and Amberpet stations conducted raids, targeting houses suspected of illegally stocking the hazardous manja. The raids yielded a total of 163 bobbins, each a potential hazard waiting to unravel in the skies.

The Kacheguda police's raid at businessman Nomula Santosh Kumar's residence in Mothi Market led to the recovery of 51 bobbins and the subsequent arrest of Santosh and his mother, Pushpa. Their confessions directed the police to Lalith Singh, a key supplier with a history of NDPS Act violations in Hyderabad and East Godavari. Singh's involvement led to a further seizure of 56 bobbins from his associates.

The operation also targeted street-level sellers. Domalguda police apprehended four students near the NTR Stadium, who were in possession of eight bobbins intended for resale. Amberpet police arrested seller K Sunil Kumar, confiscating 48 bobbins from his possession.

This coordinated effort by the Hyderabad police sends a clear message about the dangers of Chinese manja and the commitment to public safety. The arrests and seizures are a significant step in curbing this illegal trade, protecting both the city's residents and its wildlife from the silent killer that is Chinese manja.
