Cyberabad Police Crackdown: Unveiling a Web of Online Fraud

In a significant operation spanning multiple states, the cybercrime wing of the Cyberabad police has arrested 25 individuals in connection with a series of sophisticated online scams. This crackdown, occurring between December 31, 2025, and January 15, 2026, has shed light on the evolving tactics of cybercriminals and the substantial financial losses they inflict.

The arrests were predominantly linked to online trading frauds, with 12 accused individuals deceiving victims through fake trading applications and investment platforms. One notable case involved a 1.34 crore scam, where the perpetrators created a fictitious trading app, NUVAPRO, and lured victims through social media advertisements. The scammers formed a WhatsApp group, posing as an investment think tank, and used fake experts to showcase manipulated profits, enticing further investments. When victims tried to withdraw, they were met with demands for commissions and fees, leaving them with substantial losses. Two individuals, Karimajji Srinu and Gandreti Ashok, were apprehended for their role in facilitating these fraudulent transactions.

The operation also exposed other forms of cybercrime, including job fraud, smishing, and part-time job scams. In another significant incident, a victim lost 2.13 crore in a fake trading and crypto investment scheme. The scammers used social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp to lure and manipulate victims into investing in fraudulent trading websites. The police arrested Devanaboina Anil Sundar Kumar and Bethi Saikrishna for their involvement in providing bank accounts to route the scammed funds.

The Cyberabad police's proactive measures resulted in 182 refund orders, totaling 78.77 lakh, being returned to victims. This operation underscores the growing sophistication of cybercriminals and the importance of public awareness and swift reporting. As the digital landscape evolves, law enforcement agencies must adapt to counter these increasingly complex online threats.
