In a significant display of proactive policing, the Women Safety Wing's SHE Teams demonstrated their unwavering commitment to safeguarding women across the city. Their efforts in December resulted in 14 First Information Reports (FIRs) and the apprehension of 13 offenders, a testament to their vigilance and swift action.
The SHE Teams, under the leadership of Lavanya NJP, received and acted upon 98 petitions, showcasing their dedication to addressing women's safety concerns. Of these, 29 were directed to police stations, leading to 14 FIRs and 15 cases awaiting further legal proceedings. The teams' comprehensive approach, including field surveillance, decoy operations, and technical monitoring, proved effective in catching 11 adults and two minors red-handed.
Seven of the apprehended individuals were released after counselling and warnings, while nine cases were classified as serious misconduct, resulting in legal consequences. The courts handed down convictions, including jail terms ranging from two to seven days and fines. Notably, the cases involved harassment by a Rapido rider, stalking by a neighbour, and social media abuse, underscoring the diverse nature of threats faced by women.
Beyond enforcement, the SHE Teams focused on prevention through education. They conducted 188 awareness programmes and 1,045 observation drives in high-risk areas, ensuring a visible presence. Lavanya NJP's commitment to women's safety is evident: "We are dedicated to creating a safer environment for women through a combination of swift action and preventive measures." The SHE Teams' efforts in December demonstrate a comprehensive approach to women's security, leaving a lasting impact on the city's safety landscape.
