Mangaluru's streets will soon become a stage for a unique initiative as the Dakshina Kannada Bus Operators' Association, in collaboration with the police and the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, gears up for a drug awareness drive. This event, scheduled for January 27, aims to educate and engage the public through a creative street play.
The campaign will commence at the State Bank Bus Stand, extending its reach to various bus stands in the city's bustling areas, including Lalbagh, Thokkottu, Ullal, and the Talapady border. Azeez Parthipady, the association's president, emphasized the comprehensive approach by stating that stickers and awareness boards would be strategically placed on buses and key locations across the district.
Parthipady also drew attention to the challenges faced by bus operators and commuters alike. He pointed out the traffic congestion caused by vehicles parked along the roadsides from Karavali Junction to Ambedkar Circle and the narrow stretch between Kankanady and Milagres Church. The lack of proper service roads along national highways and insufficient bus bays further exacerbates these issues, making it difficult for buses to navigate and passengers to board and alight safely.
In response to the introduction of 100 electric buses by the KSRTC, Parthipady expressed confidence in the private bus services' resilience. He suggested that the KSRTC focus on routes currently lacking bus services, ensuring a more comprehensive transportation network. This initiative reflects a proactive approach to community engagement and a commitment to addressing social issues while improving the daily commute for Mangaluru residents.
