In a significant move, the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) took a proactive approach to combat the city's drug problem by hosting a counselling and awareness session for drug consumers and their families. This event, held at the Old Commissioner of Office in Basheerbagh, marked a shift from traditional punitive measures to a more holistic strategy focusing on rehabilitation and community support.

The session, attended by 40 drug consumers and their concerned parents and relatives, was a response to a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, at Langar Houz police station. Deputy Commissioner of Police Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath emphasised that the police's role extends beyond law enforcement. He urged the audience to view drug abuse as a critical social and public health issue, stating, "Drug abuse is not merely a law-and-order problem; it's a societal challenge."
