The bustling religious gathering of Medaram Jatara, a vibrant spectacle of faith and tradition, is witnessing a groundbreaking transformation in traffic control. With an expected footfall of over three lakh vehicles, the Telangana police have implemented an innovative strategy, leveraging technology to ensure smooth and efficient crowd management.
At the heart of this initiative is the Automatic Number Plate Reader (ANPR) system, a sophisticated tool that has been upgraded for this event. Unlike its conventional use in Hyderabad, where it primarily captures images for traffic violation detection, the Medaram deployment integrates AI analytics and drone surveillance for real-time monitoring. This advanced system scans vehicles at entry and exit points, identifying registration numbers and vehicle types, a crucial step in tracking stolen vehicles and detecting anomalies. The AI-powered analytics can flag suspicious activities, such as mismatched vehicle and registration details, ensuring a safer environment.
The technology's reach extends further with drone patrols monitoring the Parsa-Medaram and Tadwai-Medaram routes, covering a significant 22 and 23 kilometers, respectively. These drones provide a bird's-eye view, identifying traffic congestion and swiftly alerting police to clear jams. Additionally, cameras at the darshan queue entry and exit points enable officials to manage crowd flow effectively, ensuring a seamless experience for devotees.
"Our aim is to provide a safe and efficient environment for the millions of devotees attending Medaram Jatara," said IG B Sumati, highlighting the system's potential to revolutionize large-scale event management. This hi-tech approach to traffic control not only ensures the smooth flow of vehicles and people but also sets a precedent for future events, showcasing the power of technology in enhancing public safety and convenience.
