In a significant step towards eradicating child labour, the Telangana police have rescued 106 minors during a comprehensive enforcement operation across Vikarabad district. The campaign, aptly named 'Operation Smile', aimed to locate and liberate children forced into work, shedding light on the dark reality of child exploitation.
The special teams, formed by the police in collaboration with various departments, conducted inspections at numerous commercial sites, including brick kilns, bakeries, and hotels. The operation's success is evident in the numbers: 90 boys and 16 girls have been saved from the clutches of forced labour. Notably, the rescued children hail from various states, including Bihar, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal, indicating the far-reaching impact of this issue.
Vikarabad's Superintendent of Police, Sneha Mehra, emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that employing children who should be in school is a serious crime. Her department's commitment to addressing this issue is evident, with 23 FIRs already registered against employers. The operation's scope and success are commendable, but it also highlights the pervasive nature of child labour, especially among migrant families.
As the rescued children are reunited with their families or placed in care institutions, the authorities' message is clear: child labour will not be tolerated. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any instances of child labour, ensuring that Telangana's children are protected and their rights upheld.
