In a significant drug enforcement operation, the Hyderabad Narcotics Wing and Panjagutta Police have apprehended five individuals, including an alleged drug peddler, in a raid on Sunday, January 25th. This operation has shed light on the city's underground drug network, leading to the seizure of substantial quantities of illegal substances.
The raid, executed based on specific intelligence, resulted in the arrest of 28-year-old Katangur Mahan Reddy, a driver from Biranguda, identified as the primary accused. Four others were also taken into custody: Mohammad Abdul Nabi, an Amazon employee; Rupani Mukesh Babu, an IT recruiter; Sriram Ravi Teja, a student; and Bhupathi Sai Chaitanya. The police seized 10.5 grams of MDMA, 7.5 grams of hydroponic cannabis, and five mobile phones from the accused, indicating a potential drug distribution network.
Panjagutta Assistant Commissioner of Police, P. Murali Krishna, stated that the operation was a success, but the investigation is far from over. He confirmed that several individuals, including suppliers, transporters, and consumers, remain at large. The police have formed special teams to track these absconders, and search operations are ongoing.
This drug bust highlights the persistent issue of illegal substance abuse and trafficking in urban areas. With the accused coming from diverse professional backgrounds, it underscores the need for comprehensive awareness and prevention strategies. The case is now registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at the Panjagutta Police Station, with further investigations underway to unravel the full extent of this illicit trade.
