In a powerful display of unity and determination, over 10,000 students and police personnel embarked on a 510-kilometre cycle rally across Vijayawada, marking the beginning of a 35-day anti-drug campaign. This initiative, titled 'Drugs Pai Dandayatra,' aims to eradicate drug abuse and create a drug-free NTR district. The campaign was launched by Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, who emphasized the collective responsibility of society in tackling this issue.
The rally, flagged off at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation stadium, was attended by several dignitaries, including Health Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav, DGP Harish Kumar Gupta, and Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath. The ministers addressed the gathering, highlighting the devastating impact of drugs on youth and families. Home Minister Anitha stressed the importance of public awareness and encouraged citizens to actively report any drug-related activities to the police. She praised the NTR district police for their innovative approach to social reform, particularly commending the women police personnel for their leadership in this campaign.
The event also saw the participation of various police officials, including Police Commissioner S V Raja Sekhar Babu, who assured the public of strict action against drug offenders under the NDPS Act. The district collector, Dr G Lakshmisha, echoed this sentiment, stating a zero-tolerance policy for drug transportation and emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the youth through awareness and prompt reporting.
As the cycle rally sets off on its ambitious journey, it symbolizes a community's unified effort to combat the drug menace. The campaign's success will depend on the active participation of citizens and the continued dedication of law enforcement agencies to create a lasting impact and build a safer, drug-free environment.
