In a bid to curb the alarming number of two-wheeler fatalities, the transport authorities in Telangana are taking a stand, urging educational institutions to play a pivotal role in promoting road safety. With a staggering 3,137 lives lost in 2024 due to helmetless riding, the Regional Transport Authorities (RTAs) are on a mission to make a change.

The campaign, currently underway across the state, has already reached 52 colleges and schools, aiming to educate and protect the youth. The strategy is straightforward: enforce a "No Helmet, No Entry" policy for two-wheeler riders on campuses. M. Purshotam Reddy, RTO of Hyderabad, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that they are following the ministry's instructions to raise awareness about road safety, with a particular focus on helmet use. The authorities are also addressing other critical aspects, such as the condition of vehicles, the dangers of overspeeding, and the legal consequences of underage driving.

The statistics are sobering. Cyberabad police records reveal that 82% of riders who lost their lives in 2024 were not wearing helmets. This grim trend continued into 2025, with 449 two-wheeler deaths in the city, primarily attributed to the absence or poor quality of helmets. The campaign's visual approach, utilizing pictures and data, aims to leave a lasting impression on students, ensuring they understand the real-life consequences of neglecting road safety.
