Drug Bust Uncovers Shocking Student Involvement

In a startling revelation, Hyderabad's drug enforcement efforts have exposed a network of suspected ganja users, including a significant number of medical students. The recent arrest of ganja peddler Arafath Ahmed Khan has shed light on a disturbing trend within the city's youth.

The Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) authorities, in collaboration with the Hyderabad police, identified approximately 100 individuals suspected of ganja use. Among them, 32 medical students from a private college in Ghanpur, Medchal district, stand out as a cause for concern. When tested, nine of these students confirmed positive for ganja use, raising questions about the prevalence of drug abuse within educational institutions.

Arafath's capture in Risala Bazar, with 2kg of ganja in his possession, led investigators to a woman in Irani Colony, Bidar, who has allegedly been involved in the ganja trade since 2010. Her bank transactions reveal a staggering 1.5 crore in related activities over the past year, with Arafath contributing 6 lakh. The investigation further traced the source of the ganja to peddlers in Parli, Maharashtra, indicating a well-established supply chain.

The impact of this bust extends beyond the immediate arrests. The college authorities, now aware of the drug abuse within their hostel, have taken swift action by sending the affected students to a de-addiction center. This incident highlights the need for increased vigilance and education about the dangers of drug abuse, especially among young adults. With the ongoing efforts to trace the remaining identified individuals, the authorities aim to disrupt the supply chain and address the growing concern of drug use within the community.
