In a proactive move to combat the rising tide of cyber fraud, the Hyderabad police have launched a comprehensive cybercrime awareness campaign, "Jaagrut Hyderabad a Surakshit Hyderabad," aiming to educate and safeguard the city's residents. This initiative comes at a critical juncture, as the Hyderabad Commissionerate jurisdiction witnesses a staggering daily loss of up to 1 crore due to cybercrimes.
The campaign's launch at a residential complex in Kavadiguda marked the beginning of a grassroots movement. A dedicated network of 'cyber ambassadors' comprising residents, students, and professionals has been established. These ambassadors, equipped with digital safety knowledge, will act as the first line of defence against online threats. They will engage in door-to-door interactions, workshops, and awareness drives, ensuring that every citizen, regardless of age or background, understands the potential dangers lurking in the digital realm.
The campaign's strategy is twofold: education and prevention. Awareness materials will be prominently displayed at public spaces, including bus stands, railway stations, and educational institutions, serving as constant reminders of online safety. The police aim to empower citizens with the knowledge to identify and avoid scams, phishing attempts, and identity theft. This approach is particularly crucial in protecting vulnerable groups such as women, the elderly, and homemakers, who are often targeted when alone.
As the campaign progresses from its trial phase, Hyderabad's Commissioner of Police, VC Sajjanar, and Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy emphasize the collective responsibility to address cybercrime. They urge citizens to remain vigilant, avoid clicking on unknown links, and report suspicious activities. With this initiative, Hyderabad takes a significant step towards a safer digital environment, fostering a community that is both aware and resilient against the evolving threats of cybercrime.
