The southern states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are currently battling intense rainfall, with Hyderabad bearing the brunt of the weather's fury. In the past 24 hours, the city has experienced a cloudburst, leading to widespread flooding and traffic chaos. The Telangana government has swiftly responded by issuing emergency contact numbers for affected residents.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a grim outlook, with a heavy rain warning in place for both states. The IMD predicts that the downpour will continue, with parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana expected to receive heavy rainfall over the next two days, accompanied by winds reaching 40-50 kmph. Telangana will endure cloudy skies and light showers in the morning, intensifying into heavy rain by the afternoon. Andhra Pradesh, too, is bracing for moderate to heavy rainfall, with cloudy conditions and light rain in the north during the morning.
With the low-pressure systems in the Arabian Sea and Andaman Sea weakening, the IMD attributes the increased rainfall likelihood to reduced wind speeds. Several districts in Andhra Pradesh, including Rayalaseema, Manyam, Alluri, Palnadu, Prakasam, and Nellore, are on high alert for thunderstorms and heavy rain. The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre has issued warnings for the city, anticipating intense rainfall and potential flooding.
CM Revanth Reddy, despite being in Delhi, is actively involved in managing the crisis. He has directed officials to initiate immediate relief measures and has set up a special control room at the Hyderabad Collectorate. The government's proactive approach is evident as revenue officials' leaves have been cancelled, ensuring a swift response to the public's needs during this challenging weather event.
