Hyderabad Fights Cybercrime with Grassroots Awareness

In a proactive move to combat the surge in cyber fraud cases, the Hyderabad police have launched a comprehensive cybercrime awareness campaign, "Jaagrut Hyderabad a Surakshit Hyderabad," targeting citizens across the state. This initiative aims to educate the public about digital safety and foster a culture of responsible online behaviour.

The campaign's launch event, held at a residential complex in Kavadiguda, introduced a unique strategy: a network of 'cyber ambassadors.' These ambassadors, comprising residents, students, and professionals, have been trained to become advocates for digital safety. Equipped with knowledge of online scams, phishing, and identity theft, they will engage in door-to-door interactions, workshops, and awareness drives, ensuring the message reaches every corner of the city.

The Hyderabad police's approach is twofold: prevention and empowerment. By displaying informative materials at public spaces like bus stands, railway stations, and educational institutions, they aim to reach a diverse audience. Additionally, the police are leveraging social media platforms to provide easily accessible information, ensuring citizens can take proactive measures to protect themselves.

"We want to ensure that every citizen is aware of the potential threats lurking in the digital world," said Dhara Kavitha, DCP (cyber crimes). The campaign's trial phase will lay the foundation for a more extensive and robust cyber safety network in Hyderabad, addressing the growing concern of cybercrimes that cost the city's residents a staggering 1 crore daily. With the police's commitment to regular cyber patrolling and the DGP's emphasis on public awareness, Hyderabad is taking a significant step towards a safer digital environment.
